The 6 Touch Principles
In order to create empathy and comfort during the training process, our method allows a moderate and gentle contact between the instructor and the client. This facilitates the acquisition of gesture sequences and movements by istinct, without interference by abstract thinking and logical screening. The amount and quality of contact is variable, according to cultural and religious etiquette, and to personal disposition and mood. Some individuals shy away form physical contact, while some like it. Our training experience always starts from the client, his/her needs and temper. A set of 6 Touch Principles has been designed as a reference for the trainer. These Principles are applied as mandatory guidelines in a long «train the trainer» program.
1) Touch will be Anti-Gravitational
Gravity Means Trouble, Anxiety, so do not put Additional Gravity Load on client's body when touching. This means you must be light as a feather. The touching sensation is something close to the energy "aura" of the Tai-Qi / Qi Gong experience, or that of the japanese Rei-Ki therapists. This Touch «pulls you up», it never «presses you down».
2) Touch is Non-Invasive
The client must feel «supported and sustained», not «caught and imprisoned«. Never Press / Grip / Clasp / Hold / Handcuff the client.
3) Light as a Gentle Stroke
When working aside the client, pass from one side to the other with a gentle stroke.
Romboid/Traps Crossing Point, Lower Back and Kidney Level, and many other points are involved, some of them connected to vital organs. So it is mandatory to respect the body as a living shrine of energy.
4) Continuous
This Principle, inspired by massage therapists, prescribes that once you have established contact and empathy with the client, you should not come-and-go, or break contact abruptly. Touch should be continuous, with one or both hands.
5) Free-to-go
You will learn to get in Touch with clients, so that they always feel free to move away at any moment. Many specific exercises for trainers are dedicated to this free-to-go sensation:
› Elbow/Wrist Drive
› Wrist Articulation
› «Squid» Hand Movement
› Deltoid pose
› Shoulder pose
etc.
6) The «Dolphin»Copy Principle
As the mother dolphin does with her cubs, movements can be transmitted to your client through gentle body contact, side-by-side. The client will learn to copy them and freely adapt them to his/her own needs.
› Muscle/Body Copy
› Fluid Gesture Sequences
› Motion Copy
› Side-by-Side teaching
